Collex was conceived and designed by Dr. Bethany Nowviskie at the University of Virginia, with the assistance of Erik Hatcher as the lead programmer 2004-2007. Nick Laiacona of Performant Software joined the Collex and NINES projects in 2006 and Jamie Orchard-Hays developed the Collex exhibit builder.
Work on Collex has been generously supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which allowed for the establishment of the ARP software development group at UVA by Dr. Jerome J. McGann.
